Diagnostic Musculoskeletal Ultrasound

Diagnostic Musculoskeletal Ultrasound
Diagnostic Musculoskeletal Ultrasound

Diagnostic Musculoskeletal Ultrasound is a cutting edge diagnostic tool that detects problems in muscle, tendon, ligament and other soft tissue. Ultrasound images are captured in real time, so they can often show movement, function and anatomy, further enabling the diagnoses of a variety of musculoskeletal conditions and assessment for damage to soft tissues after an injury.

Unlike an x-ray or MRI where you are stationary while being evaluated, Diagnostic MSK Ultrasound allows for movement. This means you can see your tissues move which allows for incredible imaging of damaged or partially torn tissues, especially when these tissues are placed under load or are stretched.

Diagnostic MSK Ultrasound imaging uses high frequency sound waves to produce real time pictures of the inside of the body. Unlike MRI’s or X-rays, Diagnostic MSK Ultrasound uses no radiation and provides a clear picture of the soft tissues that do not sometimes show up well on an x-ray.

You may be asked to be seated or lie down during the Diagnostic MSK Ultrasound, and some movement may be requested from you during the test to examine the injury with more detail. A gel is used on the skin during the test, which is easily cleaned after the exam and does not stain clothing or the skin. There is no discomfort during the test, as the probe is gently pressed against the skin and it usually lasts about 15 minutes.
