At Wesley Chapel Spine and Sports Medicine, our Board Certified Physicians are experts in diagnosing/treating various types of headaches or facial pain, including primary (associated with dysfunction in the head or neck), secondary (related to allergies or injury), cluster (intense pain surrounding one eye), and migraine (intense pain and sensitivity, which can manifest throughout the body in numerous ways). Since nerves can become exposed to pinching or pressure from arthritis/inflammation, it is extremely important to identify the primary pain generator causing these associated symptoms.

Occipital Nerve Block Injections

Begin with a local anesthetic and long-lasting steroid being administered into the Occipital nerve, which can help by reducing pain, inflammation, swelling, and irritation in the area from the upper spine to the back of the head.

Sphenoganglion Nerve Block Injections (SPG)

Begin with a local anesthetic and long-lasting steroid being administered into this cluster of sensory and autonomic nerves, which includes the trigeminal nerve (main nerve involved in a headache). Blocking these nerves has proven effective in reducing the frequency and severity of your headaches.

Stellate Ganglion Nerve Block Injections

Begin with a local anesthetic and long-lasting steroid being administered into this network of nerves located on the side of your neck, with precise Fluoroscopic or Ultrasound guidance. Blocking these nerves creates a calming feeling while at the same time increasing blood flow. For headaches caused by dilation of blood vessels, this procedure helps stabilize the activity of these blood vessels, which is crucial.

Supraorbital Nerve Block Injections

Begin with a local anesthetic and long-lasting steroid being administered into the Supraorbital nerve, which runs through the bones of the face, providing sensation to the forehead and top of the head. Blocking this nerve lessens pain in the front of the head by shutting down the pain receptors in the nerve.

Nerve Blocks for Headaches
